Dent Assessment

Dent assessment is an important component of pipeline integrity management because dents can introduce localized strain, stress concentration, and geometric distortion that may reduce fatigue life or interact with other defects such as gouges, corrosion, welds, or cracks. The significance of a dent depends on its depth, shape, location, restraint condition, associated damage, and the cyclic loading experienced during operation.
