Vessel and Non-standard fittings Design & Analysis

  • Pressure vessel design and assessment require careful consideration of pressure, temperature, geometry, materials, external loads, cyclic service, fabrication details, and local stress concentrations.
  • Engineering assessments are performed in accordance with the applicable requirements of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Section VIII, Division 1 and Division 2, together with Canadian jurisdictional requirements such as CSA B51 and ABSA requirements in Alberta.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is used extensively where conventional code equations are not sufficient to accurately represent the vessel geometry, loading, or structural response.
  • FEA assessments can be used to evaluate:
    • Local and general membrane stresses
    • Bending stresses and stress concentrations
    • Nozzles and piping connections
    • Supports, skirts, saddles, lugs, and attachments
    • Complex heads, transitions, and geometric discontinuities
    • External mechanical and piping loads
    • Thermal gradients and thermal stresses
    • Local loads and structural interaction
    • Plastic collapse and local failure mechanisms
    • Fatigue and cyclic service conditions
    • Buckling and instability where applicable
  • Engineering support can also be provided for Canadian Registration Number (CRN) applications, including preparation and review of calculations, drawings, design documentation, and supporting technical information required for pressure equipment registration.
  • For pressure equipment installed in Alberta, support can be provided in working with ABSA (Alberta Boilers Safety Association) throughout the design registration and review process.
