Dig Locations and Dig Packages

Services Offered:

  • Prioritize digs based on risk ranking, defect severity, and HCA proximity
  • Prepare comprehensive dig packages including location data, feature details, and safety requirements

ILI Data Analysis

Services Offered:

  • Evaluate defects using fitness-for-service principles considering stress, material properties, and flaw geometry
  • Apply recognized methods (e.g., B31G, fracture mechanics, strain-based approaches)
  • Differentiate between defect types: corrosion, cracks, dents, weld anomalies, SCC
  • Determine critical flaw size and failure pressure (plastic collapse, fracture, fatigue)
  • Assess interaction of defects (clusters/colonies) and prioritize based on failure likelihood
  • Assess data quality: tool accuracy, sizing tolerance, and location accuracy before interpretation
  • Perform data validation and correlation with historical inspections and field data
  • Identify and classify anomalies vs. actionable defects based on severity and interaction rules
  • Integrate ILI results into risk models and integrity decision frameworks

HDD Analysis – Tight Drill Path 

PROBLEM:

  • The HDD was located in city limits with restricted space. 
  • The HDD had a tighter than normal drill path radius.
  • Typical PRCI calculations based on conservative hand calculations failed. 

SOLUTION:

  • Stress analysis was performed in Abaqus
  • The model simulated the pull back process and pipeline operation. 
  • The FEA analysis showed that the stresses were within allowable limits.

Vehicle crossing over induction bend

PROBLEM:

  • Induction bend installed under the road.
  • CEPA, API 1102 calculations are not valid for surface loading over bends. 
  • The proximity of slope introduced additional challenge. 

SOLUTION:

  • 3D pipe soil continuum model was analyzed. 
  • Induction bend checked for stress and fatigue failure.

Section VIII Div 2 Assessment – Nonstandard Fitting

PROBLEM:

  • A wye is designed to ASME B31.3 and B31.4.
  • The fitting is considered to be a special fitting.
  • The pressure design of the fitting is to be completed in compliance with the code. 

SOLUTION:

  • ASME Section VIII Div 2 Design by Analysis rules are implemented. 
  • The analysis is performed as per guidelines of ABSA AB 520. 
  • The Y fitting is found compliant with the relevant codes
